Les Houches
The one Chamonix Valley resort designed for normal skiing, sheltered, wooded and calm.
Les Houches is the best beginner base in the Chamonix Valley because its slopes behave like a proper learner mountain: tree lined, mostly gentle, protected from the weather that shuts the high lifts, with a village at the bottom that is quieter and cheaper than Chamonix itself. Around 55 km of pistes is plenty for a first week.
It wins this list outright because nothing else in the valley combines easy terrain with slope side convenience. Confident friends can be in central Chamonix in around 15 minutes, so mixed groups split the difference well.
