Vorarlberg is Austria's westernmost province, tucked against Switzerland and Germany, and it catches some of the heaviest snowfall in the entire Alps. The headline resorts sit on the Vorarlberg side of the Arlberg, where Lech, Zurs and Warth Schrocken plug into the huge Ski Arlberg lift network, one of the largest linked areas in the Alps. Beyond the Arlberg, the province spreads across quieter valleys, the Montafon, the Brandnertal and the gentle, traditional Bregenzerwald, each with its own character and lower prices.
This is the polished, snow sure end of Austrian skiing. The villages are well kept and well heeled, the lift systems modern, and the snow record outstanding. It rewards skiers who value reliable cover and good terrain over a bargain, though the value is there if you know where to base yourself.

The off piste on the Arlberg is legendary, the groomed mileage is huge, and snow reliability is among the best in the Alps. Lech and Zurs bring refinement and calm, while Warth Schrocken brings the deepest snow at a friendlier price.

Zurich is the main international gateway, roughly one and three quarter to two hours by road, while Innsbruck is a little further at around one and a half hours and Friedrichshafen in Germany is closest of all.
