These two are quiet Maurienne neighbors that solve the same problem in opposite ways. Valloire is a genuine old village that grew into a ski resort, with a baroque church, a real high street and a sense of place. La Toussuire is a high, purpose built family station perched above Saint Jean de Maurienne, built for snow and convenience rather than atmosphere. Both are affordable, neither is glamorous, and the choice is really about whether you want character or terrain.
On the evening, which is where we pay the most attention, Valloire is clearly the better address.
