Levi vs Yllas: which should you book?

Levi and Yllas are the two biggest names in Finnish Lapland, less than an hour apart, and both offer gentle fell skiing rather than alpine drama. Levi is Finland's busiest and most developed resort, a compact, modern village with the widest range of lifts, runs and nightlife in the country and a World Cup pedigree. Yllas is the larger fell with the most pistes in Finland, but it is quieter and wilder, split between two small villages, Akaslompolo and Yllasjarvi, on the edge of the Pallas Yllastunturi national park.

For a traveler chasing scenery, snow heavy forests and the aurora over an empty fell, Yllas is the more romantic and beautiful choice by a distance. But if this is a first ski trip, or you want easy slopes, ski in ski out convenience and somewhere lively in the evening, Levi makes more sense.

Access

Levi wins on access, sitting barely twenty minutes from Kittila airport, one of the quickest transfers anywhere. Yllas is around forty minutes from the same airport, still very easy. Book Levi if you want Finland's liveliest resort, the easiest beginner slopes, floodlit pistes and somewhere sociable in the evening, and you value convenience over wilderness.
