Val Thorens
The most snow sure resort in the Alps, the highest in Europe with a glacier on top.
Val Thorens tops the list because at around 2,300 meters it is the highest resort in Europe, with a glacier above and lifts reaching past 3,000 meters. It opens early, closes late and holds snow when everywhere lower is struggling, all on the doorstep of the vast Three Valleys.
It edges out Tignes on sheer base altitude and the size of the linked area. The trade is a functional, high rise village with no trees and a long transfer, but for guaranteed snow and endless terrain it is the clear number one.
