Zermatt
The greatest car free resort in the world, all electric transport beneath the Matterhorn.
Zermatt is the definitive car free resort. The entire village runs on electric taxis and carts, the Matterhorn presides over every street, and the skiing is Europe's highest lift served, snow sure into summer. It is the complete package of atmosphere, scenery and serious terrain.
You reach it by leaving the car at the large park and ride in Tasch and taking a frequent shuttle train for the final 12 minutes, or by rail all the way from Geneva or Zurich in around 3 hours 30 minutes plus the cog train. The last leg is seamless and part of the magic. It is expensive, and worth it.
