Wengen
The safest, most charming family base in the region, and the clear pick.
Wengen sits on a sunny shelf reached only by the mountain railway, a car free village where children can wander safely and the gentle slopes of the Jungfrau ski region open up directly above. The scenery of the Eiger and Jungfrau is unforgettable, the ski school is long established and excellent, and the train access, while it adds a step to arrival, is part of the magic for children. Lower slopes are sheltered for poor weather days.
It takes top spot because it combines a traffic free, child safe village, gentle terrain, a great ski school and the best scenery in skiing. The trade is that it is relatively low and reached by train, so plan for the railway logistics and trust the higher slopes in a mild winter.
