Andermatt
Switzerland's premier powder resort, a snow magnet with steep, deep terrain off the Gemsstock.
Andermatt sits in a corner of the Alps that simply collects snow, and the Gemsstock peak above it serves up some of the steepest, most consistent lift accessed powder in the country. When a storm hits, the dry north facing snow here stays good for days, and the terrain is serious enough to keep expert skiers occupied all week.
It beats Engelberg for the top spot on sheer reliability of snowfall and the quality of the steep terrain, though both are exceptional. A guide is essential off the Gemsstock. The resort has smartened up considerably with new development, and there are easier pisted areas and a ski school for non powder members of the family.
