Laax Ski Resort Review 2026

4.4out of 5, our independent ratingSwitzerland, Graubunden

Laax is the best resort in Switzerland for freestyle skiing and snowboarding, which is the main reason to book it. It runs one of the most ambitious snowpark and superpipe setups in the world, backed by a big, modern, well linked area shared with Flims and Falera and topped by the Vorab glacier. The honest trade off is that the villages are low and functional rather than chocolate box pretty, so charm seekers and powder purists may prefer elsewhere.

The verdict

The short answer

Book Laax if you want world class parks, a slick modern lift system and a big varied area that suits snowboarders and progressing freestylers better than almost anywhere in Europe. It is also a strong all round intermediate resort with a glacier for snow security up high. If you want a traditional car free village, the steepest expert terrain or guaranteed snow on the lower slopes in a mild year, you will be happier in Zermatt or a high Tarentaise resort.

Our verdict: Switzerland's freestyle capital, a big modern area with a glacier, best for snowboarders, park skiers and intermediates rather than charm or steep terrain seekers.

Who it is for

Snowboarders and freestyle skiers, intermediates wanting modern lifts, and groups who like a slick, design led resort.

Who it suits

Scored honestly

Laax is at its best for snowboarders and freestyle skiers. It runs several snowparks for every level plus one of the largest superpipes in the world, and the whole resort is built around progression, from beginner park lines to pro features. For a board focused or freestyle group it is one of the best weeks in Europe.

Beginners are well served by gentle areas and a modern lift system that makes getting around easy. Intermediates get the most from the wider area, cruising the big mileage of blues and reds across Flims, Laax and Falera. Experts have enough to enjoy, with some steeper pitches and off piste in a snowy spell, though Laax is not as steep as the marquee freeride resorts. Non skiers get a slick, design led base but less of the traditional village atmosphere found elsewhere in Switzerland.

The skiing

Terrain by ability

The skiing is one big linked area shared by Laax, Flims and Falera, served by a fast, modern lift network and topped by the Vorab glacier, which adds snow security up high. The layout is broad and cruisy, ideal for covering ground, with the famous parks concentrated around the central sectors so freestylers can lap them all day.

Beginners learn on accessible gentle slopes and progress quickly thanks to the easy lift links. Intermediates get the headline experience, a large mileage of well groomed blues and reds with long descents from the glacier. Experts will find steeper pitches and off piste after fresh snow, plus the parks if they ride freestyle, but committed steep skiers will exhaust the toughest terrain faster than at a dedicated freeride resort. The glacier holds the best snow late in the season.

The village

Charm, convenience and evenings

Laax is modern and design led rather than traditional. The base areas at Laax Murschetg and Flims are functional and stylish, with a famous contemporary hostel and hotel scene, a strong youth and snowboard culture and slick architecture rather than old timber charm. It is lively and well run, but it does not pretend to be a chocolate box Swiss village.

Evenings are sociable and youthful. There is a good spread of bars and restaurants and a real apres and music scene driven by the snowboard crowd, but for quiet traditional Swiss evenings you would look elsewhere in Graubunden. For a younger or freestyle focused group, the energy is part of the draw.

Where to stay

Chalets and where to base yourself

Laax offers a modern mix of design hotels, a well known contemporary hostel, apartments and chalets, mostly around the Laax Murschetg base and in Flims. For the easiest access to the lifts and the parks, base near Laax Murschetg, while Flims suits those wanting a slightly quieter, more village like feel.

Lift pass prices and how to save

What a pass costs

A Laax day pass runs around $80, covering the whole Flims Laax Falera area, with better value over six days. The price buys a big modern area, world class parks and a glacier, and booking online before you arrive is usually cheaper than the resort window price.

Book the extras and save

Lift passes, transfers, lessons, ski hire and insurance are where a trip quietly leaks money. Booking ahead almost always beats the resort window price.

Getting there

The journey

Zurich is the main gateway, roughly a 2 hour transfer by road, which is one of the shorter runs to a big Swiss resort. The drive is straightforward and a booked transfer takes the hassle out of the last leg, while the Swiss trains plus a short bus are a comfortable car free option. A car is handy but not essential.

Airport transfers

Pre booked shared and private transfers are usually cheaper and smoother than arranging it on arrival.

When to go

Timing your trip

Laax skis from December to April, and because the villages are relatively low the snow is most reliable from January to early March, with the Vorab glacier holding cover up high later in the season. Target midwinter for the best park conditions and snow, and weekdays for quieter slopes. Spring brings sunshine and softer snow lower down, so stay high on warm days.
