Les Menuires Ski Resort Review 2026
Les Menuires is the smartest value way into the Three Valleys, the largest linked ski area on earth. It sits high at around 1,850 m with genuine ski in ski out access to roughly 600 km of pistes, so you get the same enormous mountain as Courchevel and Meribel for a far smaller bill. The honest trade off is the village itself, which began as functional 1960s blocks, though large parts have been rebuilt into far more attractive chalet style quarters, and the modern sectors are now genuinely pleasant places to stay.
The short answer
Book Les Menuires if you want the full Three Valleys ski area, high snow sure slopes and true ski in ski out convenience at a price well below its glamorous neighbors. It is one of the best value high resorts in France, especially for families and keen intermediates who care more about the skiing than the address. If you want a pretty, historic village, fine dining and old world charm, or you are a nervous first timer wanting a small cosy resort, you will be happier in Meribel, Courchevel or a smaller village.
Our verdict: The value gateway to the Three Valleys, high, snow sure and superbly convenient, ideal for families and intermediates who want huge skiing without the premium price.
Who it is for
Families, intermediates and advanced skiers, and anyone who wants maximum skiing, reliable snow and ski in ski out value over village charm.
Who should skip it
Travelers who want a beautiful historic village, refined dining and atmosphere, and those who do not need a vast linked area to justify the trip.

Scored honestly
Les Menuires is at its best for families and intermediates who want a lot of skiing for sensible money. The high, snow sure location, ski in ski out apartments and direct lifts into the whole Three Valleys make it efficient and stress free, and the local slopes offer a genuine mix of gentle and challenging terrain. For value hungry groups it is one of the most sensible bases in the Alps.
Beginners are reasonably served with good nursery areas, though the resort is large and busy rather than small and cosy, so some first timers prefer a smaller village. Advanced skiers do well, with the steeper Pointe de la Masse sector and quick access to the wider area's serious terrain. Non skiers have less to do here than in a charming town, since the appeal is the skiing and the convenience rather than shopping and atmosphere.
Terrain by ability
Les Menuires has two distinct local sectors plus instant links to the rest of the Three Valleys. The sunny side above the village serves up wide, gentle cruising, while the Pointe de la Masse opposite is higher, snowier and steeper, the part keen skiers come back for. From either side the lifts open up Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel within a day.
Beginners and families have good gentle terrain on the doorstep and easy blues to build on. Intermediates are spoiled, with endless rolling blues and reds locally and effectively unlimited mileage across the linked valleys. Advanced skiers get genuinely good terrain on La Masse, including steeper reds, blacks and off piste, plus fast access to the toughest runs in neighboring valleys. Because the resort is high, the snow holds well through the season, and the north facing La Masse keeps its quality longest.
Charm, convenience and evenings
Les Menuires is honest about what it is, a high purpose built resort designed to get you onto the snow with minimum fuss. The original 1960s blocks at La Croisette are functional, but newer quarters such as Reberty and Les Bruyeres are far more attractive, built in chalet style timber and stone, and these are where we steer guests who want a nicer base. Across the resort the ski in ski out access is excellent.
Evenings are relaxed and family oriented rather than glamorous. There are plenty of bars, supermarkets and good value restaurants, and some lively apres ski, but this is not a place you come for fine dining or a chic scene. The trade off for the modest village is real, since you are paying for skiing and convenience, not atmosphere.
Chalets, apartments and ski in ski out beds
Les Menuires is one of the great value bases in the Alps, with a huge range of ski in ski out apartments and a growing number of smarter chalets and residences, especially in the rebuilt Reberty and Les Bruyeres sectors. For the best blend of looks and lift access, aim for those newer quarters rather than the original central blocks, and prioritize a genuine ski in ski out position to make the most of the area.

What a pass costs
A Three Valleys day pass runs around $75 to $85, with much better value over six days, and it covers the whole 600 km area including Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens. A cheaper local Les Menuires and Saint Martin pass is available if you do not plan to roam the full area every day, which can save money for families and beginners. Booking the pass before you arrive almost always beats the resort window price.
Book the extras and save
Lift passes, transfers, lessons, ski hire and insurance are where a trip quietly leaks money. Booking ahead almost always beats the resort window price.

Les Menuires has a strong choice of ski schools with reliable English lessons for adults and children, plus private instruction and good children's programs suited to its family audience. Ski hire is plentiful and reserving online before you travel is usually cheaper and saves queueing on day one. With so much terrain to grow into, a few lessons early in the week pay off quickly here.

Geneva is the main gateway, roughly a 3 hour transfer by road, with Lyon, Chambery and Grenoble also within reach. The final climb up from Moutiers is a standard Alpine mountain road, so allow time and travel with winter tires or chains. The train to Moutiers with a short transfer up the valley is a popular low stress alternative to driving, and a pre booked transfer takes the hassle out of the last leg.
Airport transfers
Pre booked shared and private transfers from Geneva, Lyon or Chambery are usually cheaper and smoother than arranging it on arrival.

Les Menuires is high and snow sure, so the season runs reliably from early December to late April. January and February deliver the coldest, most dependable snow across the whole Three Valleys, while March adds longer, sunnier days that suit families, with the higher Pointe de la Masse holding its quality latest. For the best mix of snow and value, target January or mid to late March, outside the peak holiday weeks.
Les Menuires FAQs
Is Les Menuires good value?
Yes, it is one of the best value high resorts in France. You get ski in ski out access to the entire Three Valleys, the largest linked ski area on earth, at prices well below Courchevel and Meribel. The savings come from a more functional village rather than any compromise on the skiing.
Is Les Menuires part of the Three Valleys?
Yes. Les Menuires sits in the middle of the Three Valleys and links directly to Val Thorens, Meribel and Courchevel, giving access to around 600 km of pistes on one pass. Its central position makes it an efficient base for exploring the whole area.
Is Les Menuires good for families?
Very. It is high and snow sure, largely ski in ski out, and has good nursery areas, ski schools and a strong range of family apartments at value prices. Families who want maximum skiing without the premium price are well suited here, especially in the smarter rebuilt quarters.
Is the village ugly?
The original 1960s blocks at La Croisette are functional rather than pretty, but large parts of the resort have been rebuilt. The newer Reberty and Les Bruyeres quarters are attractive chalet style developments, so choosing where you stay makes a big difference to the experience.
Is Les Menuires good for advanced skiers?
Yes, better than its value reputation suggests. The higher Pointe de la Masse sector has steeper reds, blacks and good off piste, and the whole Three Valleys, including the toughest runs in Courchevel and Val Thorens, is within a day's reach.
How do I get to Les Menuires?
Geneva is the usual gateway, roughly a 3 hour transfer by road, with Lyon, Chambery and Grenoble also options. The train to Moutiers with a short transfer up the valley is a popular low stress alternative to driving.
If Les Menuires is not quite right
Three neighbors in the same valley and pass offer more charm, more height or more polish, all on the same Three Valleys ski area.
Saint Martin de Belleville
A pretty, traditional village lower in the same valley, with real charm and the same Three Valleys access at a calmer pace.
Val Thorens
The highest resort in Europe, just up the valley, for the most snow sure skiing and a livelier, higher base.
Meribel
The pretty, chalet style heart of the Three Valleys, more charming and central but considerably pricier.
